Man convicted of killing a Lynbrook father gets 70 years to life behind bars

The man convicted of killing a Lynbrook father while he was walking home from the train station was sentenced to 70 years to life behind bars.

Nelson Zuniga of Freeport was convicted of second-degree murder for being the triggerman in the 2003 botched robbery that left 37-year-old Anthony Battaglia dead. Battaglia was shot once above his left hip and stabbed twice in the lower abdomen.

Four other people were charged in the attack, but all accepted plea deals. Zuniga, who was also convicted of robbery, was the only one to stand trial.
