Focus 12: Wildfires Anniversary - Part III

Firefighters who battled the fierce wildfires in 1995 on the East End say they learned important lessons.

Former Wildfires Incident Commander Chief Dan Culver says many lessons have been learned in the last 10 years to prevent big fires. He says firefighters aggressively attack and try to get blazes out so there is not extreme damage or home loss. Culver says firefighters learned priceless lessons from battling such a powerful blaze 10 years ago.

A former fire official says perhaps the best lesson learned from battling the wildfire was getting approximately 200 emergency departments with different radios to be able to hear each other with the use of a new command post vehicle.
