Gang sweep in Suffolk County nets more than 200 arrests

After a monthlong undercover operation in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County cops nabbed 60 confirmed gang members and 223 suspected gang members.

Using undercover officers, wire taps and electric surveillance, the Suffolk Gang Initiative targeted the streets of Brentwood, Bay Shore and Central Islip. The 60 confirmed gang members were part of the Bloods, Legion of Doom, MS-13 and Latin Kings. Police also confiscated cash, crack, cocaine and marijuana.

Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota says there is no safe haven for any gang members in Suffolk. He also says the effort to eradicate gangs is an ongoing effort and there will be another gang sweep in an undisclosed location in Suffolk.

These arrests come just one month after Suffolk cops busted the entire leadership of the Latin Kings in Suffolk.Related Stories: Police make progress in breaking down gangs in Wyandanch-Amityville area
