East Setauket man makes successful appeal for mercy to Hurricane Katrina

After making an appeal for mercy to Hurricane Katrina, an East Setauket man finally heard from his daughter who weathered the storm in Louisiana.

Pete Lutzen spoke with his daughter, Paula Jean, on Monday at 1 p.m. It was the first time the two spoke to one another within 24 hours since her evacuation to Baton Rouge. Before her call, the sleep-deprived Lutzen says he stayed glued to the television watching the news.

Residents in Baton Rouge, a city about 80 miles northwest of New Orleans, are being told it could be two weeks before power is restored.
