Hempstead School District accused of cashing in on taxpayer money
The Hempstead School District is in the hot seat for allegations of misspending funds.
Community activist Sharleen Reshard has spent more than a year wading through mounds of district invoices and bills. Reshard says records show school officials and board members have been using taxpayer money on meals, cell phones, luxury hotels and expensive cars.
News12 Long Island learned the district spent at least $17,000 on meals for school officials and board members in just three months. Reshard points out that every dollar spent on those luxuries is money being taken away from the children.
