Power play could knock Nassau County presiding officer out of her post

Democrat Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) is on the verge of being ousted as the presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature. Democrats hold a slim 10-9 legislative majority. Now, minority Republican lawmakers, with the blessing of their party chairman Joseph Mondello, are prepared to make Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) their new leader. Republicans say if Corbin is voted in, their bills will finally see the light of day for a vote. But Jacobs warns there could be potential chaos and legislative gridlock.Nassau County lawmakers are scheduled to take the oath of office Tuesday. Later in the afternoon, they will vote for a new legislative leader.
