Battle brewing over fate of a historic landmark in Garden City

There's battle brewing over the fate of Saint Paul's School, a historic landmark in Garden City.

As the building begins to fall apart, some feel it should be given to private developers to build luxury apartments. But others, like preservationist Ed Keeting, feel the building should be renovated for public use since it was purchased with public funds. Keeting is now suing to stop the village from examining private development of the site while ignoring any public option.

However, village Mayor Gerard Lundquist says it is not illegal for the village to expend monies to hire a consultant to study the private development of St. Paul's School.
