Nassau County executive announces controversial abortion program

Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi has announced a controversial plan to give millions in grants to reduce the number of abortions and support young women facing crisis pregnancies.
Suozzi's plan includes county funding for adoption services, housing and prevention programs. The program will also provide comprehensive sexual education. Patricia Shea, of Momma's, Inc., says it will give potential mothers the option to proceed with the pregnancy by providing clothing, housing and food, as well as teaching skills necessary to be a good parent.
Local lawmakers are accusing Suozzi of trying to pander to both pro-life and pro-choice advocates. A leadership dispute in the Nassau Legislature has prevented the governing body from formally meeting to discuss the issue.
