Kings Park school board hears parents' sex education concerns
Parents had mixed reactions at a Kings Park school board meeting called after an intermediate school held a sex education presentation for fifth-graders.
The presentation included a tampon demonstration, which some parents felt was inappropriate to show to a group of co-ed students. Others questioned the credentials of the presenter. However, many parents feel it was better for their children to learn the proper information from the school rather than possibly being misinformed through friends.
School officials say letters were sent to parents before the presentation and that a seminar was held to introduce parents to the subject matter. Administrators added that all students were required to have a signed permission slip in order to participate.
