Islip Terrace woman gives husband gift of life for Valentine's Day

A couple from Islip Terrace is celebrating Valentine's Day with kidneys instead of hearts.

Leona Agnello is set to donate a kidney to her husband Joe on February 14, giving him a second chance after being diagnosed with diabetes at age 19. Doctors say Leona should be home three days after the operation and Joe about six days. They added that Leona should be able to resume full activities without restrictions in about a year.

Health care officials say there are nearly 100,000 people currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. Stony Brook is the only hospital on Long Island that performs the procedure.
