Great Neck skating sensation laces up for Olympic competition
Long Island ice skating sensation Emily Hughes got in some last-minute practice Monday before flying off to Italy.
The 17-year-old was at dinner with her family Saturday when she got the phone call asking her to replace the injured Michelle Kwan on Team USA at the Olympics.
Hughes' coach says her family is thrilled, but being that it?s all unexpected, they have a lot to do to get ready. Emily is the younger sister of Sarah Hughes, who won a gold medal at the Salt Lake City games in 2002.
The women's figure skating event begins next Tuesday.
