A West Hempstead High School senior was killed and two were critically injured in a car crash Thursday afternoon.
Police say the crash happened just before noon when the three boys were speeding down Nassau Boulevard. Authorities say the driver lost control of the car, veered over the double yellow lines and crashed into a utility pole and dumpster.
Authorities say Saul Hernandez Lopez, Herbert Martinez and Quinntin McDonald, all 17, had just left the high school to go to lunch. Lopez died in the crash and the other two were taken to the hospital.
Those who live in the vicinity of the crash site say the stretch of road is dangerous for drivers.
