Nassau police say a violent crime spree instigated by six teens beginning Tuesday night was inspired by the ?Grand Theft Auto? video games.
The teens, ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old, are accused of numerous violent acts in New Hyde Park and Garden City. Police say they attacked a man waiting for a bus, robbing him and knocking his teeth out.
Armed with bats, a crowbar and broom handle, the teens allegedly set up a human roadblock across Stewart Avenue and threatened vehicles that approached it. Police say they stopped a girl in a car and stole her cigarettes.
Police say the teens were emulating characters from the video game. All six were charged with first-degree robbery.
Authorities believe there may be more victims of the crime spree and are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
