An investigation is under way after a male human torso was found in a Suffolk landfill Monday.

Authorities returned to the landfill Tuesday to search for additional body parts. Cops don't know the identity of the person whose remains were found, why he was dismembered or how he got there.

?We're back here today in an attempt to search a larger part of the landfill to see if there are other body parts or any other evidence can be recovered,? Suffolk Detective Sgt. Edward Fandrey says.

Police say the remains were found at the 110 Sand Company on Spagnoli Road in Melville. According to police, employees made the discovery as they were moving debris.

Investigators say the torso was intentionally dismembered and wrapped in plastic. They believe it was dumped in the landfill sometime in the last few days. Police say construction debris from various businesses across the Island is taken to the location.

While some Long Island residents told News 12 Long Island they?re not surprised by the discovery, truck driver John Patsalos, of West Babylon, says it?s anything but normal.

?I've been dumping here for 20 years and we've never had anything like this here,? Patsalos says.
