A North Babylon man was arraigned on attempted assault and weapons charges Saturday for allegedly attacking a woman in a Syosset parking lot.
According to authorities, 27-year-old Robert McGaughey asked out a 21-year-old friend, who rejected him. That is when police say McGaughey pushed the woman against the car and punched her.
McGaughey then allegedly slashed the woman's tires with a knife and tried to stab her, but missed.
Prosecutors say McGaughey is a registered Level 1 sex offender who was arrested last week for trespassing.
Bail for McGaughey's release was set at $7,500. He's due back in court July 14.
