Suspected GPS thief caught on tape in Dix Hills

A Dix Hills man says he caught a GPS thief on video using cameras he installed outside his home, in hopes of keeping his neighborhood safe.

The man, who did not want to give his name, says the culprit was lurking in his driveway Monday night looking for something to steal. He says he installed the surveillance cameras after burglars repeatedly stole GPS devices and stereos from his cars.

When the man called 911, he says police told him four other vehicles in the area were broken into that night. Police will only confirm a break-in was reported. They're asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
