Teen struck, killed while riding bicycle

A 19-year-old was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a minivan while riding his bicycle to work.

Mauricio Carranza, of Rocky Point, was killed on Route 25A and Amber Lane when a minivan slammed into the back of his bike. According to police, the driver of the van received a summons for driving with a suspended license.

Detectives say they are treating the death as a tragic accident, but are still asking anyone who may have information about the incident to call the Seventh Squad at (631) 852-8752.
