LI family killed in Taconic State Parkway collision

A Long Island family from Floral Park and West Babylon was among eight killed Sunday in a three-car crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester County.

The crash occurred at about 2 p.m. Sunday near Route 117.

State police say a mother, her young son and daughter, and her three young nieces were in a gray minivan heading the wrong way on the northbound lanes when their car collided head-on into an SUV. A third vehicle also was involved.

Police say the four girls, all under the age of 10, riding in the minivan were killed, as well as the driver. One child, the driver's 5-year-old son, survived and was hospitalized.

Three men from Yonkers riding in the SUV were also killed.

AP wire services were used in this report.
