Governor voices support for Lighthouse project

The plan to redevelop the area around Nassau Coliseum got its biggest support to date Monday with the governor pushing to move the project forward.
Gov. David A. Paterson (D-N.Y.) attended a meeting for Charles Wang's Lighthouse project. During the meeting he said he has directed state agencies to move as quickly as possible on the permit process.
While some see the project as important to the local economy, others say the plan to build an office building, hotels, retail stores and housing units as well as redevelop Nassau Coliseum is too big for the suburbs. The project would also affect the New York Islanders. A public hearing on the project's environmental impacts is scheduled for August 4.
