Paterson: New law improves health care access
(AP) - New York Gov. David Paterson says the bill hesigned will make health care more affordable and accessible throughseveral changes, including one that will allow people who losetheir jobs to continue buying reduced cost coverage for twice aslong as before.
That bill will give people 36 months to use COBRA after losingtheir jobs. COBRA allows people who have lost their jobs tocontinue with the same insurance plan they had under an employer. It's less than half the cost of insurance on the open market.
A second bill will allow families to cover children up to age 29under insurance provided by their employer. The final bill isdesigned to reduce bureaucracy that stands in the way of care andcut down on inappropriately delayed or denied claims.
