3 killed in Wantagh State Parkway crash

Police say three people are dead after a car accident in Wantagh early Monday morning.

Investigators say the accident occurred at around 3 a.m. on the southbound side of the Wantagh State Parkway north of Merrick Road.

Authorities say there were four people in the car and that the driver, 22-year-old Anthony Pitello from Bayville, and two of his passengers were killed. Officials say the passengers who died were a female from Wantagh and a male from the Bronx.

The sole survivor, a 19-year-old girl from Amityville, is being treated at Nassau University Medical Center in critical, but stable condition.

Police say speed caused the crash. A source at the scene also says alcohol was found in the car, but officers have not determined whether it played a role in the accident.
