Suffolk DA: Smugglers hid heroin in insoles
Suffolk officials say they made the biggest bust of uncut heroin in the county?s history, stopping smugglers who brought the drug in from Mexico.
Authorities say they seized more than 17 pounds of uncut heroin from Odir Mora and Abraham Lopez-Perez, both illegal immigrants, in Melville last week. Prosecutors announced the arrests Tuesday. The stash was 90 percent pure, according officials, and had a street value between $8 million and $10 million.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says the men hid the drug inside the insoles of shoes. The men have been indicted by a grand jury and are due back in court Thursday.
