Elderly Shirley man dies after suffering burns
(AP) - Police on Long Island say a 76-year-old mandied after suffering burns at his home in Shirley. Police say Joseph Palermo, Jr. was found unconscious on hisbedroom floor on Tuesday by a family member.

(AP) - Police on Long Island say a 76-year-old mandied after suffering burns at his home in Shirley.
Police say Joseph Palermo, Jr. was found unconscious on hisbedroom floor on Tuesday by a family member. Palermo, who usesoxygen, had burns on his face and clothing and a nearby chair wasalso burned.
He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Centerwhere he was pronounced dead.
Police say they are examining the possibility that Palermo mayhave been smoking at the time of the incident.
