Culture Camp
Every summer a unique camp in Melville helps some Long Island children reconnect to the culture they were born into, but may not know much about.
Asian Culture Camp, now in its 31st summer, is run by the Long Island Cultural Appreciation Program. All of the campers are adopted and most were born in China, Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia. The camp was started by a West Islip couple who wanted their adopted children to learn about their native culture and see other children like them.
The program offers Asian martial arts and art classes as well as Asian music, dance and language classes.
