Lawrence parents sue over closing of school

The dispute between the Lawrence School Board and parents continues with a lawsuit filed against the district over the closing of a school.

The school board, made up primarily of Orthodox Jews who send their kids to private schools, voted to close School Number 6. The board blamed it on dwindling enrollment, but the parents suing say it?s because members want to turn it into a Jewish private school.

The suit alleges the school closing violates the First Amendment. The school board?s attorney calls the claim ridiculous. He says there are no plans to sell or lease the property. He also discredited rumors about it being sold to a yeshiva.
