More and more Long Islanders are taking advantage of the tax breaks being offered to homeowners who are ?going green.?
A new federal energy efficiency program offers a tax credit of up to 30 percent of the money spent on green upgrades, or $1,500.
Real estate agent Joe Sinnona, also head of the Green Project of Long Island, says there has been a lot more activity under the new tax credit offers.
Steven Kalantgopoulos, who is upgrading his two-family Long Beach home, says with two new boilers he?s making his home a lot more efficient and cutting his gas bills by approximately 40 percent. He?s also getting the $1,500 tax credit.
