2 teens charged in Patchogue hate crime
Two more teens have been charged in a hate crime attack against a Hispanic man in Patchogue.
Matthew Mont, 16, of Patchogue, and 19-year-old Curt Hatton, of Islip, were arrested Tuesday. Mont, Hatton, and 20-year-old Ramon Rodriguez, who has already been charged, are accused of robbing and beating the man on Aug. 15 while shouting anti-Mexican slurs.
All three are charged with third-degree assault as a hate crime. Mont and Hatton are held on $50,000 bail and are due back in court Aug. 30.
The arrests come nine months after the alleged hate crime killing of an Ecuadorian immigrant in Patchogue, which sparked the creation of a hate crimes task force in Suffolk.
