NYPD cop indicted in murder-for-hire plot

A grand jury handed up a sealed indictment Friday against a New York City police officer accused of hiring a handyman to kill his ex-wife.
Anthony Battisti, of Franklin Square, has been arraigned on several charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy and weapons possession. Battisti's wife, Patricia, was stabbed in the neck this past January, but survived.
Newsday reports the alleged hit man, Timothy Gersbeck, is accused in a separate case. Battisti could face life in prison if convicted.
Neighbors say they haven't seen Patricia Battisti since she was attacked but heard she's doing OK.
