Man pleads guilty in fatal Melville DWI crash
The Centerport man accused of killing a woman while driving drunk and then fleeing the scene earlier this year pleaded guilty Friday.
Bride-to-be Melissa Scherr, 25, never regained consciousness after Douglas Davis slammed into her car on Route 110 in Melville. Prosecutors say Davis' blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit and that he tried to hide evidence of a crash.
?After the accident he should've stayed around and tried to help her,? Melissa?s father Michael says. ?That's really what hurts the most.?
Davis was sentenced to three and one-third to 10 years in prison. The Scherr's attorney says the family plans to file a civil suit against Davis.
