Patchogue man arrested in alleged hate crime
Police arrested a Patchogue man who they say threw a wooden log and glass bottle at a parishioner in front of a church Friday night.
Christhian Munguia Garcia, 25, is charged with attempted assault as a hate crime. He was captured in the woods behind the Iglesia Evangelica Refugio de Salvacion.
Members of the Hispanic Clergy Organization and a Bronx state senator came to a rally in an effort to stop bias crimes. Organizers had already planned the protest before Friday night's arrest in response to another alleged hate crime.
Police confirm that the arrest was made for targeting a religious practice, not a person's ethnicity.
