Suffolk brakes for debate on red-light cameras
Suffolk legislators say they?re being cautious about installing cameras at red lights in the county after hearing about the controversy over Nassau?s cameras.
Drivers in Nassau say they?re being ticketed for not making a complete stop before turning on red. Some Nassau lawmakers told News 12 Long Island they didn?t know right-turn violations would be included.
Suffolk lawmakers addressed the issue during a committee meeting Tuesday. Ultimately lawmakers say a police officer will look at the footage and decide whether to issue a ticket.
The county expects to install cameras at 50 intersections by late January.
