A volunteer firefighter died Wednesday morning battling a fire at a Huntington Station bagel shop.
Officials say the blaze broke out at around 3 a.m. at Uber Café on Depot Road. Officials say Richard Holst noticed the flames and quickly called the fire department to the scene.
Holst went into cardiac arrest and collapsed while fighting the blaze. Some of his colleagues who were also EMTs tried to revive him. He was then taken to Huntington Hospital, where he later died.
Holst, 60, was a volunteer firefighter in Huntington Station for 31 years and an active member of the community. He was also chaplain and captain of the Fire Police Squad.
