Nassau legislators approved a measure Wednesday that forces chain restaurants to post calorie contents of their dishes.

Leg. Roger Toback (D-Oceanside) says he modeled the bill on a law in effect in New York City. He says the law will put more information in the hands of consumers and allow young people to make healthier choices.

The Centers for Disease Control says childhood obesity has tripled since 1980. Experts also say people make better eating decisions when they're more informed.

Healthy eating advocate Nancy Huehnegarth says the city law has had a positive affect. She cites a city study finding consumers ordering 52 fewer calories per meal since the law was implemented.
