A 70-year-old woman is in serious condition after being struck by a car early Wednesday in Babylon.
Police say Nancy Mikkelson was hit while crossing East Main Street at Deer Park Avenue. The driver was on his way home from a late-night shift at a local cab company.
Mikkelson lives at an assisted living home near the scene of the accident, but those who know her says she?s very independent and frequently goes out on her own.
Police impounded the car that struck Mikkelson but say they don?t expect to file any criminal charges. Police say it was dark and rainy and that the driver swerved to avoid hitting her, but couldn?t.
