Rice: Student's false rape claim being probed
The Hofstra student who claimed she was gang-raped by five men in a dorm bathroom may now face charges herself.Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the 18-year-old woman admitted the sexual encounters were consensual after investigators told her a video of the incident may exist.Rice has said a criminal probe into the rape allegation is under way. She said it is against the law to report a crime that didn't occur. The university says it has suspended the woman and that she may be expelled. Jesus Ortiz, Kevin Taveras, Stalin Felipe and Rondell Bedward were freed Wednesday night after Rice said the woman admitted the rape did not occur. Taveras has worked for Cablevision's information technology department since 2007, his lawyer said. Cablevision is the parent company of News 12 Long Island.
