Requests for unemployment benefits increase

? The latest news about the job market is not good, as more Americans are joining the unemployment line.

New claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week. Officials say it is disappointing news, since unemployment claims went down for three weeks in a row.

The Department of Labor says another 17,000 Americans applied for benefits last week, contrary to what analysts believed would be only 5,000.

The Senate must still decide whether to extend unemployment benefits an extra 13 weeks.
