Immigrants on LI offered free flu shots
Day laborers and immigrants across Long Island had a chance to receive free flu shots Saturday as a part of a charitable initiative.
Rev. Allan Ramirez, of the Brookville Reformed Church, and a nurse administered flu vaccinations in Farmingdale and other locations. Ramirez says the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, a business called 1-800-Cantaso and his church donated money for the shots.
While the event targeted immigrants who are less likely to have health insurance, Ramirez says it was open to anyone.
Later in October, Ramirez will be giving out vaccinations for the swine flu.
