Hempstead doesn't OK Lighthouse by deadline
The fate of the New York Islanders remains uncertain following Hempstead officials? refusal to approve the team owner?s development project.
Developer Charles Wang has said if the Lighthouse Project doesn't get the town board?s seal of approval, he will consider offers to move the team to another city.
The Hempstead Town Board says there are still concerns about traffic, air and water quality, and the number of buildings, including a new sports arena, the $4 billion Lighthouse Project would bring to the area.
The Hempstead town supervisor is set to meet with Wang and discuss the project further early next week.
