3 killed, 4 injured in Wantagh boat accident

(AP) - Three people are dead and four othersseriously injured after their 40-foot boat ran aground in marshlandsouth of Wantagh. Nassau County police say the boat's captain was ejected when thecraft hit the marsh in Sunday's accident. He was dead when rescuersgot to him. Another male and a female also were killed. The foursurvivors were at nearby hospitals. Authorities say that the boat was navigating a channel when itran aground near the Wantagh State Parkway, which leads south toJones Beach. Police, fire and U.S. Coast Guard rescuers worked to rescue theinjured, airlifting two people to area hospitals. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
