Cops: Body found on street is Roosevelt man

Police have identified the body found on a Huntington Station street Sunday morning as 27-year-old Luis Castro, of Roosevelt.

Investigators say Castro was stabbed multiple times and dumped on West Rogues Path.

Some are criticizing police for leaving Castro?s body in the street uncovered as they investigated. Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone says covering the body with a sheet right away could have contaminated evidence before it was collected. He says the scene was processed thoroughly.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy defends the handling of the crime scene and says staffing levels and overtime pay were not factors in the amount of time that the body was left uncovered.

Police have not determined a motive and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
