Police say a Brentwood woman left her three young grandchildren home alone Wednesday.

Sources say the children are all under the age of 6. A spokesperson for the Brentwood Union Free School District says it sends officials to the homes of students who are frequently absent. When officials arrived at the home on Martinstein Avenue, they say there was no adult in the home so they called police.

Police are not saying why the grandmother left the children alone or if charges could be filed. The children are back in the custody of their mother.
