Fierce winds blow on Long Island

Powerful winds left a trail of damage across the Island Wednesday.
Long Island was pounded by winds of up to 50 mph in some places. Scaffolding on Central Islip's federal courthouse was torn right off and toppled 11 stories to the ground.
Elsewhere gusts of wind posed problems for trees and power lines. LIPA reported 22,000 homes had power knocked out Wednesday afternoon, mainly in Hempstead and North Hempstead.
