Wicked winds wreak havoc across LI
Strong winds knocked down trees and power lines across Long Island Wednesday.The Island was pounded by winds of up to 50 mph in some areas. LIPA reported 22,000 customers had power knocked out Wednesday afternoon, mainly in Hempstead and North Hempstead. As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, LIPA said 760 customers were still without power.In Hewlett, a giant tree came crashing down on a home and power lines. The home and the rest of the block did not lose power and no injuries were reported.LIPA Power Outage Summary
