Study: Most LIRR disability claims still OK'd
A year after a report revealed more than 90 percent of LIRR workers? disability claims were being approved, a government audit finds nothing?s changed.
After the initial scandal broke, the Railroad Retirement Board, which grants the benefits, implemented an oversight plan to fix the problem. However, the Government Accountability Office says 64 out of 66 claims were approved within the first six months of the plan. The audit also says out of 74 retired employees receiving disability, 73 will continue to collect money.
A spokesman for the RRB tells News 12 Long Island, ?the oversight plan is working and provides supporting evidence of the integrity of the occupational process."
