Poll shows support for Shinnecock casino

An exclusive News 12 Long Island-Hofstra poll says nearly half of Long Islanders are in favor of the Shinnecock Indian Nation building a casino on the Island.

The findings put support for a casino on Long Island at 49 percent and opposition at 36 percent. Another 15 percent are undecided.

Suffolk officials say no specific areas have been mapped out yet for a potential casino, but sites off the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway are being considered. The Shinnecock Nation still needs to obtain federal recognition before a casino would even be possible.
