Weekend storms strip LI beaches of dunes

State Parks officials say the weekend nor'easters that hit Long Island stripped Robert Moses field 5 of at least 10 feet of dunes.

The heavy rains and winds caused erosion along most of Robert Moses State Park, officials say. A walkway at Captree State Park is currently closed because of erosion and Parks officials don't know if it will be opened again.

A spokesperson for the Army Corps of Engineers says no federal or state money has been set for dredging, but if the situation is deemed an emergency, a contract to bring in sand to stave off the water can be arranged.
