Stony Brook University is floating a proposal to have a 135-room Hilton hotel built on its campus.
The hotel would be built on an 11-acre wooded area of the campus near the parking lot of the administration building.
Stony Brook University Medical Center?s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Todd Griffin says having a hotel nearby would be good for patients? families. It would also help the hospital stand medically out by allowing more people to visit the facility, Griffin says.
Some students and civic leaders, meanwhile, say it would only exacerbate congestion and traffic.
The university says the hotel?s style would be in keeping with that of other university buildings.
