Crooks posed as Nassau workers target elderly

Police are trying to track down thieves they say are targeting elderly Nassau residents by posing as county workers.

North Bellmore resident Joyce Kronenberg, 81, says a man wearing a hat reading ?County? on it showed up at her doorstep Tuesday. He said he was doing outdoor work for Kronenberg?s neighbor and needed to see her backyard. While she was outside with the man, police say someone was inside ransacking her bedroom.

Police say the thieves used the same scam hours later in Massapequa Park with another elderly resident. They?re recommending residents ask for proper identification or a call-back number from visitors purporting to be with the government.
