Suffolk County is closing a county-run health clinic in Central Islip, a move many say will leave patients inconvenienced.
Patients will now have to go the county clinic in Brentwood, which will undergo a multimillion-dollar expansion. Residents who use the Brentwood facility, however, say it?s already overwhelmed and can?t handle more patients.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy says it doesn?t make sense to spend millions on improving the Central Islip clinic when there?s already a plan to expand the Brentwood facility.
State Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood) says the Central Islip clinic needs to stay open until the Brentwood expansion is complete. The facility is set to close Dec. 15.
