Repeat drunken driver gets maximum sentence

A repeat drunken driver received the maximum sentence Thursday for killing a young Levittown man in a car accident last year.
Persi Esquival, 47, of Valley Stream, slammed head on into a car driven by 21-year-old Jason Shein, killing him on impact. According to prosecutors, Esquival's blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.
Esquival was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide and sentenced to up to 21 years in prison.
At the time of the crash, Esquival was on probation for a prior DWI charge and was driving with a suspended license. He will be eligible for parole in seven years.
